After completing a 4 years apprenticeship with Frans Van Dijk in Germany, I came to Britain in 1984 to continue my studies.

I worked for the trade for many years, honing my skills in all aspects of repair work, bow rehairing, set ups, as well as continuing making.

I now like to divide my time between making, repairing and research.

My aim is to produce good quality instruments that stand the test of time and age naturally.

Over the years I have used and refined tap tuning technique which, for me, is essential to create instruments of a fine balance and consistency in tone quality.

For violins I normally work from Stradivari and Guarneri “del Gesù” patterns. I like both because of their contrasting qualities, stylistically and tonally.

Violas are designed “around the customer” - although some standard models are available in different sizes.

For cellos I have used a Montagnana pattern in the past, but currently I prefer a Mathias Klotz model.

I’m always keen to work closely with the customer and to take into account their specific needs and requirements.
