For a long time I have been interested by the interaction of player, materials and the dynamic response possible particularly on an acoustic instrument.  I made my first acoustic instrument under the instruction of Norman Reed in Totnes Devon in 1995, himself a maker of viol family instruments, and it was there that I became interested in double bass.  In my final year at Newark violin school in 2011 I decided I would like to specialise in making double bass.  That year I returned home to Caithness to establish my workshop.
