Violin, viola and cello maker, tonal adjustments
21 Clerkenwell Green
Andreas Hudelmayer opened his central London workshop in 2002, where he concentrates on making new violins, violas and cellos. His instruments are now played by musicians across the UK, in continental Europe and Asia. He enjoys a particular reputation among musicians in London and beyond for his tonal adjustments.
Among Andreas’ clients are the soloists David Frühwirth, Eung Soo Kim, Michael Hsu and the Salzburg Mozarteum’s leading violin teacher, Igor Ozim. He has written for The Strad, and Classical Music magazine featured him in its 2003 Strings Special.
Andreas is a regular participant in the prestigious Oberlin violin making workshops in Ohio, USA, where top violin makers from around the world meet to exchange ideas. He is particularly interested in how acoustic technology can be used to improve instrument sound.
Andreas studied violinmaking at the Newark School of Violin Making in the UK from where he graduated with distinction in 1994. He worked with leading luthiers in Potsdam and Berlin before returning to the UK, where he ran the workshop for the London dealers Frederick Phelps Ltd from 1997 to 2002.
