welcome to the bvma
The British Violin Making Association, formed in 1995, is one of the foremost violin making associations in the world, with about 400 members based both in the UK and abroad.
Our aims are to:
Raise the standard of skill and expertise of makers and restorers
Share information among makers and restorers
Promote the craft to the general public
Promote fellowship among all those interested in violins and bows.
We welcome members who are involved in violin and bow making and anyone who is interested in the craft. If you are a professional, an amateur or an enthusiast from anywhere in the world you can join us today. Benefits of joining include a quarterly newsletter in full colour, access to our events and conferences, and the opportunity to exhibit at our annual Maker’s Day exhibition in London. If you are a supporter of our aims, but do not believe that full membership is for you, please consider joining our association as a friend.

The BVMA runs Maker’s Day each year, an opportunity to meet over forty violin makers from Britain and beyond and try contemporary instruments without the pressure of having to buy. After almost 20 years, Maker’s Day is now in it’s third year at King’s Place. Meet the makers, see, hear and try their instruments during this international celebration of the craft of violin making.
The BVMA publishes a quarterly newsletter which has been in full colour from 2018. The association realises that there are many subjects of interest to violin makers and musicians that would be difficult to find a space in traditional print forms, and that many important articles don’t fit within the peer-review rules of scholarly journals.
