Specialism: Making new violins, violas and cellos Contact: 15 Grove Place London NW3 1JP UK
Hans Pluhar started his studies in violin making at the Violin Making School of America in Salt Lake City in 1992. After that he did an apprenticeship in Krems, Austria with Jacob Saunders and moved to London where he worked in restoration of fine instruments for Andreas Woywod. In 2000 he went into self employment to focus on making new instruments. Hans has visited workshops around Europe and America and has done workshop experiences in various places to deepen his understanding of instruments. Being in touch with experienced players is crucial for his perception and knowledge about sound and playability of instruments. He has participated in the BVMA´s Violin Making Marathon at the Royal Academy of Music in 2004 and is a regular member the VSA´s international Violin Making Workshop in Oberlin, Ohio. His instruments are used in orchestras and chamber groups, by soloists, professional musicians, teachers, students and amateurs. Venues his instruments have been used in by soloists include London´s Wigmore Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, the Musikverein in Vienna, New York´s Carnegie Hall as well as various chamber music festivals around Europe. Hans' customers include Pieter Schoeman, concertmaster London Philharmonic; Erich Höbarth, concertmaster Concentus Musicus and Camerata Bern; Lukas and Iris Hagen, Mozarteum Salzburg and Chamber Orchestra of Europe. Hans has contributed articles for the BVMA newsletter and for "The Strad" magazine: "Trade Secrets" in the September 2006 and November 2007 issues. | ||||||
